Notations in score not appearing in parts

• Nov 21, 2023 - 20:21

Performance indications like accel, rit, dim and hairpins that appear in the score are not consistently making it into parts created from that score.

Also the instrument names in the score (Trombone...) are not appearing on the generated parts. Instead the actual MIDI instrument sound name used by the staves (Piano) is being used instead.

Example:

  • Load the attached score "In Dulci Jubilo008 rehearsal letters.mscz"
  • In rehearsal section D, notice hairpins and a dim--- on all four parts. Also notice the "accel" and two "rit" attached to the top voice of the score
-go to the Parts tab and "Open all"

-examine the parts. The "Trombone 1" part will be incorrectly labeled "Piano". Notice that at rehearsal section D the above mentioned performance indications are missing although they do appear in the other parts.

-This project originally started out as four "Piano" instruments on an SATB style staff. However, I've changed the names of the parts to "Trombone..." and I would expect those names to appear on the parts instead of "Piano", right?

You changed the names of the parts to trombone. But that doesn't change the actual instrument. I assume you did that in "Staff properties". You need to finish by actually changing the instrument to trombone. Then the parts will be titled correctly. You can also change then in the parts window before you open the parts for the first time.
As for hairpins. I deleted a few that were not showing in parts, and reentered them. Then they showed in the parts.
You have hidden tempos that might not be needed. Cresc. and dim. are definable in Properties. Hairpins can not be defined and must have a dynamic at the end to work in playback.
And if you still want piano playback, you can change to piano in the mixer. Or any instrument.

Thank you for your response.

"You have hidden tempos that might not be needed."

The hidden tempos are needed to stake out specific tempos at specific points on playback, but I don't want them to show in printed parts. They work as I expect them to.

"Cresc. and dim. are definable in Properties."

They have appearance properties, not playback properties. For playback they work like hairpins.

"Hairpins can not be defined and must have a dynamic at the end to work in playback."

Yes... and indeed I have dynamics at both ends of my hairpins and dims. Dynamics on playback were not the issue. The problem was that even though they appeared properly in the score... and behaved properly on playback... they weren't showing up in the parts.
