Change of clef when transposing

• Dec 27, 2023 - 20:37

I'm using the same line of music for various instruments in a band. When I transpose the part for a bassoon (from a Baritone sax part) the music and key signature change correctly but it's still in treble clef. How can I change this to bass clef please. Thanks.

It is much easier and better to change the instrument rather than do the transposition etc. manually.

Try this: From the instruments tab add a bassoon. Select everything in the barisax part and CTRL+C to copy. Click on the first rest in the bassoon part and CTRL+V to paste. As you have told Musescore that the destination instrument is a bassoon, Musescore will look after the transposition, clef, and playable range that is pertinent to a bassoon.

If you insist on doing it the hard way, after doing the transposition manually, you would select the treble clef at the start of your bassoon stave and then click on the bass clef in the clef pallet. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/clefs#add-change-start-clef

The handbook is a good starting point https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4

A quick scan will at least familiarise you with terminology and the knowledge that instructions in most things are in there somewhere. I find that using the complete list of contents available from the Appendix combined with my browsers "find in page" is a good way to locate specific things in the handbook. But the forum is also a good place to visit when you are stuck.
