Missing notes and entire measures/instruments from playback on Musescore 4

• Feb 14, 2024 - 13:52

I am working on a score using the Marching Band template, but have deleted a number of instruments from it. I am currently focusing on the notation for piccolo, flute, trombone and tuba.

Playback has erratic failures. Sometimes the entire score plays perfectly, sometimes not. When I work on the score and play back a segment, any given instrument may fail to play a single note, an entire measure or more. Oddly, when such segment is bracketed with repeats, it may play the repeat back perfectly.

This problem persists now for quite a while and I wonder if it has been flagged here as an issue?

I am attaching "work in progress" where this problem is frequently occurring, although it is impossible to predict.

Hello,

I too would like to draw attention to this issue, using Muse Sounds.

Sometimes some sounds are left out while other times they can be entirely different ones.
I'm working using the symphony template. The issue probably has something to do with the number of instruments as I've not encountered issues while using templates with 4 or fewer instruments.

Additionally, playback can vary greatly between devices. I worked on a file on my computer and everything sounded fine, but when I shared it with my teacher their playback sounded completely different, especially in terms of the dynamics of the instruments. Again, this has not been an issue when working with smaller instrument configurations.

Okay, one potential solution that I found searching the web is the increasing of the audio buffer found in:
Edit -> Preferences -> I/O.
By setting the buffer to 4096 the disappearing sounds/instruments are played normally.
