Default styles

I want MuseScore to always put the name of the score and the page number on all pages after the first one in all my scores. I finally figured out how to insert that info into a specific score using Format --> Style --> Header & Footer. It was difficult enough to figure out how to do that once I was in there. So now I want to figure out how to apply those setting by default to all my scores that I create. I went to the Templates and Styles page in the documentation, but it doesn't make much sense to me. (Does this stuff really have to be that complicated? Might as well be nuclear physics!) I did manage to save a style, though, which i called my_default_style.mss. I can load that style into a document when a create it, and it will do what I want. Is there any way, though, to get the program to default to those settings without my having to specifically find and load the file that I created every time I start a new score?

Since you already created the style, all you have to do is select Format>Load style. Not automatic, I know, But not much is.

Do you have the Different odd and even pages option selected? That is useful for positioning page numbers at the outside corners of pages, but anything you want to appear on every page has to be entered twice, once for odd numbered pages and once for even numbered.

So either unselect Different odd and even pages or enter the information you want on all pages in the relevant panels for odd and for even pages.

Tho not complete yet, I edited and rearranged the page pretty heavily months ago. In retrospect I totally agree with your comment.

Back then the page was way shorter. I came looking for info as I was troubled by why setting a text itallic, or editing a value in format>style, or clicking the "set as default" button doesn't create the result I expected, so I get to the bottom and find out the thing is based on a concept of data inheritance and separate profiles. I tried to write down everything I learn, inadvertently making it awfully lengthy. To be frank, I find it quite difficult to concentrate long enough to read it myself :)

To average user, how useful can a help page like nuclear physics text actually be? Not really. Feel free to help improve it as you see fit https://musescore.org/en/community-documentation

"To average user, how useful can a help page like nuclear physics text actually be?"

To be fair, I felt just as baffled when I first used MuseScore - particularly as I had no previous experience of any music notation software. I reckon it took me well over two years before I knew instinctively where to look in the various options:
Format > Style... (and the jungle of options within it)
Format > Page settings...
Format > Load style...

Maybe we can be proud that we are inherently just as talented as nuclear physicists? The learning curve is steep, but it's so rewarding when it has been mastered!
