Mid Staff sound change only works once
I can only get the mid-staff sound change to work once. The Mid-Staff Change feature (described in the user manual in the "Change and Adjust Sounds section") allows (for example) a violin sound to change from a normal to a pizzicato sound during playback of a score, if the Text Properties of a staff text item is set to do so. In my case, this works once, but any following attempts to change the sound (say, from pizzicato back to normal) does not work.

Thanks for all the hard work creating MuseScore!

There is a bug in 0.9.5. It is fixed in the development builds for the next version of MuseScore.
(See http://musescore.org/node/3098 for details on this particular bug)

In Staff Text Properties, instead of "Normal" choose "tremolo". This will, in 9.5, cause string instruments to revert to arco (normal bowing). This works with the soundfont I use (sinfon36.sf2); I cannot speak for other soundfonts.
Windows XP.
Good luck.

Thanks! I tried your trick and it works for me. I defined a normal arco string sound for the "tremolo" sound. Now I can switch back and forth between arco and pizz sounds without a problem.

Keep in mind that if you mark something as tremolo (to work around a bug) then it is likely to actually sound tremolo when you upgrade to the next version of MuseScore (which fixes the bug).
