Repeated notes aren't played

• Jan 29, 2010 - 21:48

I'm using the stable release of 0.95 on WinXP SP3, and in any midi I've opened in Musescore, if a note is repeated twice or more in a row, the repetitions are not played. This also happens if the notes are part of chords. Example: G G G; the first G plays correctly, but the last two G's are not played. Chord example: CEG CFA; all of the first chord plays correctly, but only the F and A in the second chord play, because the C was repeated.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. :)

If they're tied, it's definitely not displaying it, and the notes it doesn't play definitely shouldn't be tied in the first place.

I attached a MIDI where it happens; it's especially noticeable starting in the 24th measure.

Also note, when I make a score in Musescore then save it as a MIDI it plays fine. But most of the MIDIS I try to play are from my friend who uses Sibelius (they play fine in Sibelius).

If the files were originally created in Sibelius could you ask for the original files and post them here too. Also could you ask what version of Sibelius your friend is using? Thanks.

Even though noone's replied for nearly 4 months, just though I'd post an update. Still encountering the same problem with Musescore 0.96 on Windows 7.

I'm really surprised noone else has had the same problem; this happened to me on all of my computers: a win2000 pc, a win2000 laptop, a winxp pc, and a win7 laptop.

I'll attach some more files in case that helps anyone. I do not hear the problem in bleach-change.mid or Cheerful_Sonatina.mid. However, it is consistently there in sorairo-days.mid. And what really baffles me is that in bleach-my-pace.mid only some of the repeats are ignored, while others play correctly.

If I had only tested this on one computer, I could just pass it off as OS or driver issues; but on FOUR computers across THREE versions of windows??

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Laptopdude

To follow developments on this issue see
#5949: MIDI import gives unexpectedly silent notes

"sorairo-days.mid" plays correctly in the latest nightly builds of MuseScore.

I didn't see any examples of untied repeated notes in "Cheerful Sonatina.mid". Am I missing something?

"bleach-change.mid" doesn't playback correctly in version 0.9.6 or the current nightly builds. I outlined the problems in comment #4 of the bug report linked above.

I was using the stable release, 0.9.6 (I forgot to try nightly builds...my bad) but the most recent nightly build (3272) played everything i threw at it correctly except "bleach-my-pace.mid". For example, the repeated 32nd A-note right before the 4th beat of the 3rd measure does not play, and the repeated 16th B-note right before the 3rd beat of the 8th measure does not play (I thought I heard something wrong at full speed, and I had to slow it down drastically to distinguish between the hardly heard 32 notes and the ones not actually playing).

I have no idea why i included cheerful sonatina...I guess I was thinking of another file...

"bleach-change.mid" seemed to play without the problems you mentioned in the other thread (as it should, since the other user said it was fixed).

Thanks for the help,
