I have found using keyboard shortcuts to enter tuplets a very efficient way of doing it.
I have put together an entry, modelled on the existing "Tuplet/Note entry mode", which you might like to consider adding to the Handbook.
As it only replaces the existing text by keyboard shortcuts, you may not think it needs pointing out...
