Dots of dotted notes doubled

• Feb 9, 2011 - 08:35

Hi. When 2 voices share the same dotted note, 2 dots will appear. It only happens if the note is on a line (e.g. treble clef E, G, B, D etc) but not on a space. Please see attached.

Right now I just set one of them invisible. But is there a better solution for this? Thanks.

Hi there ansonwun,
As I was looking at this very interesting thread as I tried to find out how to enter double-dotted notes and came across the same problem that You have described, I think I found the answer to Your question here:
Go to "Style", "General style", and then "Notes", the second-last field gives you the option of changing the "Dot dot distance"; simply increase the distance.
I hope this helps, Good Luck to You!!!

But changing those values would change all the dot positions. I've run into the problem he describes in several of my pieces (overlapping dotted note in two voices on a line) which produces the dot above and below the line. The solution he has for 1.2 is elegant and simple and one I will use. For the upcoming version 2 you can flip the positions of the dots to hide the ones you don't want. It would be nice if MS would auto-combine the dots in these cases but I will take a work-around as well.
