save versus export

It occurs to me that creating MIDI, audio, or graphic (PNG, PDF, etc) really doens't belong in the "Save As" dialog. These are really *export* operations, not "save" operations. The important distinction being that "save as" normally makes the newly saved document the active document, so future "save" operations will save to that file. This isn't true for the file types I mentioned. This is not very likely to lead to confusion regarding the graphic formats, but could regarding MIDI if the user doesn't understand this. In the case of MusicXML, I'm not even sure what I'd expect.

Another respect in which this is not ideal is that PDF export is kind of hidden. "Save As" is not the first - or second, or even third - place most people would look to find PDF export capability. Many appliations have a PDF Export button right on the main toolbar. Others have a export submenu in the file menu; others put combine PDF creation in the print facility.
