Editing instrument names

• Feb 27, 2011 - 11:17

Thanks in advance for whoever is able to help :)

I need to change the name of the choir voices that are given. E.g. Sopranos needs to become 1st Sopranos and S. needs to become S.1

I also need to change to arial.

I double click on them, but nothing happens.
I also go into "Style, Edit text style, Instruments long" and change to arial. But nothing happens. The font remains Times New Roman.

Sorry, I understand this is a basic question, but I can't easily find an answer in the manual or in old posts.

Warm regards,

Stu

This is an FAQ...
right click on Stave > Stave Properties. In that dialog you can change the 'instrument' name separatly for the first and all other staves.

The staff properties affects the name, but to change font, go to style->edit text style and change the various "instrument" styles. These unfortunately don't take effect immediately, but if you then either remove your instruments and add them back or else simply "change instrument" on each staff (no need to actually select a *different* instrument).

Looks like the next major release will include a much more straightforward scheme for setting text styles.

I am using MuseScore 1.0 under Windows 7.

I no longer seem to be able to edit instrument name fonts.

I know this cannot be done directly anymore by clicking onto the instrument name, but I cannot make it work by editing text style either.

From the Style menu, I select Edit Text Styles. Then I select either the InstrumentsLong or InstrumentsShort name and change the font and/or size, then click Apply. Nothing seems to happen so I try saving the file and then reloading, but still no changes have been made.

Also, I can no longer find to way to insert an accidental into an instrument name, such as Bb Clarinet, where the flat sign is wanted instead of the lower case letter b.

I apologize if this has already been covered. I have searched the thread cannot seem to find this specific issue. Most of the discussions involve no longer being able to click onto the instrument name.

See my reply just previous to your question. Changes in text style do *not* affect already existing text in 1.0 (looks like that ability will present in the next major release). So the solution is to force the names to be generated after you change the text style - either by not adding staves until after the text style has been set, or by changing the instrument on existing staves.

I'm not sure about putting special characters into staff names, but assume that would be straightforward in fonts that actually include those characters.

I don't know how to change the names in 1.0 or 1.1. or 1.2 or 1.3, but to change the text style in 1.3 you go into style and go under edit text style...
