Pre-render

For computers that struggle with real time playback (stuttering), could there be an option for it to quickly pre-render?

Its basically implemented in recent 2.x developer version.
First export audio to an ogg vorbis file. Then you can add the audio to the score with "add additional media" dialog.
Playback can then be switched between "synthesizer" and "audio track".
Drawback is that you cannot change tempo anymore during playback when you use the audio track.

It's a good workaround, but I don't think it's efficient.

Although MuseScore is a notation application and won't be able to playback a number of things found in a MIDI editor (or wherever), I'm still in favour of the quick and straight-forward rendering of what is available.

For any other needs, you could use the external audio.

I agree a pre-render sounds like a good idea - much more straightforward than the idea of actually generating an audio file and attaching it to the score. I see this form of playback as something you'd do while the score is still under development. You can't be stopping to generate new audio files each time you want to hear playback after making an edit. Yet it would be nice to have a way to make the playback less affected by CPU constraints. Pre-rendering -either the whole score, or at least a few bars and buffering like is generally done for streaming - seems like the perfect solution to me.
