Playback on Chord Names

• Jun 7, 2012 - 17:17

i realize that this feature has been requested before, but it appears to have been at least a year since the last request.

as the arranger for a small ensemble (trio and quartet) it would be great to be able to specify a rhythm guitar part in chords, with single notes or slashes to show the rhythm. default to first inversion would be fine, as long as there was the ability to select different inversions as required.

it would also be nice to be able to generate separate parts from a score containing the rhythm guitar part with the chord line intact.

if this item isn't on the growth path for musescore, please put it on.

btw, i absolutely ADORE musescore. ya'll have done a magnificent job of making music software intuitive and of high quality! and i'm amazed at how much work i can get done in so little time! thank you so much!!

This would be a good follow on from the Fret diagram support coming in version 2.0

I think this is an excellent idea :)

I wouldn't expect it soon though, the roadmap for 2.0 is already in place, and there is still work to do with chord spellings in the Fret Diagram support.

I definitely think It should be considered for inclusion in the next major version.

Actually, here's a request, and my thoughts, from just a few days ago:

http://musescore.org/en/node/16812

In short: given the enormous complexity invovled in getting anything results that would be even remotely not laughable, I think the apporach of integrating with a program like Impro-Visor that is already tackling that problem makes way more sense than trying to build something into MuseScore.

Although I suppose in the specific case of explicitly created fret diagrams - as opposed to chordnames in general - then simply playing the diagram exactly as specified, using whatever strum might be specified in rhythmic notation (direct support for which would be nice) is more easily doable and would make sense.
