Challenge! Transcribe a complex score with MuseScore

• Jan 14, 2010 - 21:32

Hi,
I got a question that sounds like a challenge. Will next MuseScore version be able to transcribe the following score?
The score has been typeset by Craig Sapp using SCORE.
First system is quite OK. See the attached mscz. I use MuseScore trunk, r2606, self built. Find the PDF of the first staff made with MuseScore attached.

I got some problems. Suggestions are welcome!

  1. The instrument name can change from one system to another one. And with more change than just long and short instrument name. It's not possible in MuseScore. Right?
  2. On first measure, first staff, first system there is a full measure tuplet in 4/4. It needs to be a 3 half notes tuplet. I can't find a way to do this. Might be related to #2584: Tuplet crash on full measure (0.9.6 regression)

  3. If this can be solved, nested tuplets should be ok.
  4. There are some nice funky slurs
  5. And some funky white noteheads on kind of 16th notes ???

  6. Last thing, an accolade in the middle of a system.

1. Ability use the same staff for different instruments is on the ensemble Milestones page: "Ability to switch instruments mid-way through a staff". If the instrument changes midway through the staff then the Long and Short instrument names would also change for the beginning of the next system.

2. This is a very recent regression. It was possible a few revisions ago.

4. The slurs (ties?) are possible. Just double click to edit the handles. I found that if the slurs/ties are too close together it can be difficult to edit the second. To workaround this I had to add one tie, edit it, then add the second and edit it.

6. Probably the only way to add the accolade to the middle of the system right now is to use large text or use a custom-made SVG bracket (drag-and-drop it into the score).

In rev. 2626 i implemented a feature to change a note head regardless of note duration (in addition to the ability to change the note head group). The tuplet bracket direction can also now be flipped.

The noteheads in #5 are tremolos. The notation with the two beamed half notes is just an alternative to half notes with the two slashes between them. Since MuseScore already supports the latter I would put the former at a low priority.
