My Incantations :preludes and Canons for solo Piano by EARL MARTIN

• Jan 11, 2011 - 10:40

I have 3 of these finished so far. I am working on a piano concerto too.It will have a raging furious ctoccata on black spiritual hyms since im agnostic with fullthrashing deviling chords .Brass fighting da piano allda way thru. Wind septet and 12 tone piece need finishing touches.I think this piece might be more frenzied and a longer section of chord thrashing.Too Tonal :right now !

That is a good question and very easy to answer. If I had more faith and hope for humanity I think a n answer would be more colorful more diverse. My simple answer is there are rare consonances and the listener must enjoy the din I enjoy making. The joy is self-created it does not come from pastoral reflections like Liszt& Debussy nor do I enjoy easy resolutions. Agnosticism allows the harmonies in Barraque and Boulez to stand as valid. It means there can be more voices and more polyphony than any human being can actually makeout or FEEL. Most of all agnosticism means there must never be a key or a ready made pulse.Themes and melodic contours can glisten because there are many beauties in our universe. Most of which the human animal shall never come to know.
I will put a video I made with my phone of me playing this fun piece. Listen to Andrew Tovey' & Mike Finnissy if u want to know whee the bizarre registrations and quick chordal flights came from. If I want to be original as all that I will def in have to think long & hard. I love mashing chords and lines far apart from each other on da keyboard. My 8th Caprice for solo violin willl do something like this.Paganinni for the Sciarrino and Nono croud. I 'm way behind on introducing electronic sounds but it will all happen. Thanks for paying attention to my work.Without really formal training it is all modest juvenilia I suspect!

i think you said you feel agnosticism leads logically to not having a set key or rhythm. also that it supports harmonies from greats like list & debussy.

i like debussy's work. what do you think christianity supports? at it's center is christ and the cross. just wondering what you make of that. i don't see any music that christianity invalidates.
