Notes beginning at the same time, but with different beat values

I've been struggling with this for a long time. How do I place two notes that begin in the same place, but have different note values? I see this a lot in sheet music, but I can never get it to work on musescore. It makes it difficult to transcribe my music sometimes. :\
For example, I have a Bb that lasts 3 beats, but a Db that lasts only 1 beat that I want to play at the same time, so I can work my way up with an Eb and an E, both 1 beat as well.
The only workaround I've found is to split the Bb into 4 quarter-notes and tie them all together, but this gets somewhat irritating when I have to do it so many times.

Does anyone know how to do this?
