It's better to save the score in MIDI to be imported into Ardour. You'll be able to change the MIDI file and assign instrument to each MIDI track using SF2 soundfonts like in MuseScore but also virtual instruments, etc...

Just looked at the Ardour home site ... it appears Ardour 3 will support Midi and its nearly here :) !!! Great..
My current version has no midi capability.

Any other sequencer could do before the release of ardour 3. Try oomidi, LLMS or MusE. (all open source and free)
