Key Signature Simplification

• Aug 4, 2011 - 09:07

Musescore automatically simplifies key signatures on transposition selecting the key signature with the least number of changes and where the are the same number of changes, as with Gb and F#, it favours flats. This can result in the key signatures across a score being spelled differently when transposed from concert pitch, with some parts in sharps and some in flats. For example, a score in concert A when transposed places a Bb instrument in the key of B, but places an Eb instrument in the key of Gb.

It is desirable and conventional to have all the key signatures in a score spelled the same. Therefore could an option be provided somewhere, presumably in the initial key signature selection page, to turn off the automatic simplification feature, and with it turned off either ensure that a Gb/F# choice favours the same spelling as all the other parts in the score, or provide a 'global', 'per stave' or 'per key signature' option.
