putting in notes via midi keyboard not working

I cannot input notes with my midi keyboard (yamaha with e mu 1x1 midi interface) I follwed the video tutorial and midi input is enabled. In preferences under I/O "choose port midi input interface" There are no choices listed. I notice the keyboard works fine with my cakewalk software and other software (the emu 1x1 is selected as input) so it is not the key board. Is there a way to choose midi devices in Musescore? I am using windows XP and a audigy zs sound card. I can input midi via qwerty or point and click but not from midi keyboard.
. What am I missing? Any ideas?
