Managing levels/layers in Figured Bass
Hi community,
the Figured Bass function is great because it's so simple. However, there is one thing I cannot work out: Quite often in figured bass, the figures relate to each other horizontally and therefore need to appear on the same level, e.g. a simple 4-3 suspension. So the questions I could not answer by reading the docs and googling this forum are the following:
1. How can I assure that numbers are notated on the same level? Example:
chord 1 | chord 2 | |
---|---|---|
level 1 | 6 | |
level 2 | 4 - | 3 |
The 4 needs to appear on the second level but I didn't manage to leave the first level empty. Even filling it with a forced space (Ctrl+Space) is autocorrected.
2. How can a hyphen be displayed that often connects suspensions to resolutions?
Such a hyphen is displayed in the above minimal example but would, naturally, be set in the middle of two numbers. This can be alternatively solved via a continuation line... providing that question 1 can be answered.
In the attached MuseScore 3.3.4 file, there is also a slightly more advanced example with three layers that includes a continuation line on the correct level:
chord 1 | chord 2 | |
---|---|---|
level 1 | 7 - | 6 |
level 2 | 4+ | |
level 3 | ♮__ | __ |
The first level has a 7-6 suspension and the lowest level has a natural sign that needs to be continued over the next chord. In the second chord, a 4+ needs to be inserted between the two layers. Here, it worked to have the second level empty for the first chord by inserting a forced space, but the continuation line is not working.
Is there a trick I don't know or is this a feature that needs to be developed? Thank you for your help!
