Failure to Install on brand new MacBook Air

Hello. I've never used a Mac before and I'm not very experienced with computers. I've been trying to install the latest version of muse score (3.6.2) and the download proceeds as normal, but when I try and open it I get an error that says "An error occurred while installing the selected updates." with no further info. I'm not really sure how to troubleshoot on a Mac or figure out what's wrong so if anyone has had a similar problem or knows what I could do to find out more I'd appreciate it.
