"Cannot read file"

Just downloaded MuseScore 4 yesterday. Created a score. Saved it to my desktop. Closed MuseScore. When I clicked the icon for the file, MuseScore should have opened the file. Instead, I got an error message saying "Cannot read file. This score was saved using a newer version of Musescore." When I try to open the file from within MuseScore, it can't find the file in my file directory.
