Option for instrument location (other than pan)?

Could there be a feature that allows me to arrange the locations of instruments affecting playback? Like I can move an instrument farther back and left (without having to use pan and reverb effects yet affecting playback.) Could there be a master panel in mixer that allows me to quickly arrange all instruments from a birds-eye view in a menu.
