Sustain pedal does not work, reverb from previous measure continues into new measure.

The subject says it all, in theory the sustain pedal feature should act as a sustain pedal does, meaning it should 'lift up' and stop any sound from one measure from continuing to another to prevent unholy dissonance from entering the ear regions. Is there a separate feature within Musescore that I'm missing that would make the sustain work properly, or a specific way to orient the sustain bars so that this doesn't happen?
