Keyboard instrument dynamics and channeling

• Sep 1, 2024 - 00:45

As far as I know, an instance of a keyboard double staff cannot play more than one dynamic marking at a time. For example, I can't place a pianissimo marking in the right hand with a forte in the left hand, and expect them to play back different dynamics.

I understand the work-around would be to place two one-stave keyboards in the project to have two separate channels, but then you have to fix the engraving and everything, and it kinda just slows things down.

I was thinking perhaps we could find a way to make it so all instruments with multiple staves get multiple playback channels automatically, labeled by the instrument name and a counter number, or R/L. That way, it can be as simple as loading the instrument in and putting the dynamics on whichever staff you desired, and the playback would go through whichever channel it was set to (Piano R, Piano L, or both).

I understand I lack some technical knowledge on how that is actually executed, but hopefully this can give some ideas as to what would make workflow a little smoother.

Thanks!
