Inputting elements with a text input

I am trying to recreate Dorico's Key Commands feature with a plugin, however I have 2 issues:
1. I don't necessarily know how to recreate the text box that Dorico creates when inputting a key command
2. I don't know how to add specific elements using the text specifically in a text input field (clefs specifically right now)
