Note entry

Hi everybody
I think that in the section of the manual "Note entry" the first part is susceptible of improvement, in particular for new users.
Here is a suggestion for a more friendly and readable version (I hope!).
Do you think is it a good idea?
Please verify my English.

Notes are entered following these steps:

  1. select your starting position for note entry
  2. select Note entry mode
  3. select the duration of the note (or rest) you want to enter
  4. entry note (or rest) using keyboard shortcut, mouse or a MIDI keyboard

Starting position

First select a note or rest on the score as your starting position for note entry. When entering notes you are always replacing existing notes or rests. So the duration of a measure does not change.

Note entry mode

  • N: Enters Note entry mode.
  • Escape: Leaves Note entry mode.

Duration of the note

After entering Note entry mode you should select the duration of the note you want to enter by selecting a value from the note palette or by the corresponding keyboard shortcut.

In version 0.9.4 and later the keyboard shortcuts for selecting the note duration are:

Entry notes

You can entry notes using the mouse, a MIDI keyboard (see below) or keyboard shortcut.
In the following example notes are entered by typing: C D E F G A B C

Other editing commands:

  • Up: Increase the pitch of a note by a semitone (uses sharps).
  • Down: Decrease the pitch of a note by a semitone (uses flats).
  • R: Duplicate the note.
  • x: Flip note stem direction.
  • Shift+x: Move note head to opposite side of stem.
