Do you mean you want to delete the whole staff? If so, the yes, just press "I" (or go to Create / Instruments), select the staff, and hit Remove.
If you just want to delete the clef, you can right click it and Set Invisible.
Not sure what lyrics have to do with this, so maybe you mean something else. An example of what you are talking about would help.

I misunderstood something?
It seems a similar case: http://musescore.org/en/node/21790
Could you add some details?

Thanks Marc,
I went to Create / Instruments,
then selected the base clef under piano,
then selected remove.
Worked fine.

Not easy. Can't figure it out. Selected Oboe originally. got 2 clefs, can't remove one.

Please, don't leave us guessing... If you have a problem score. just attach the score to this thread as an .mscz file. Then someone might be able to help you.

Assuming you really mean you want to delete a “staff” and not just the clef at the beginning of it, go to the Instruments panel in the left sidebar, expand the list g for the instrument, select the (un)desired staff, press Delete.
