Parts not updating along with score!
Hello guys, I wonder if you could help me with a little problem I am experiencing.
For the past few days, parts have not been updating to reflect what I have done on the main score. Entire sections I have written are missing from the individual parts, and this is really bugging my butt because I am very nearly finished and am getting ready to submit it to my orchestra director for printing, etc.
I have tried deleting all of the parts created so I can start fresh, but the program crashes the moment I hit the ok button.
Today I was adding things to the viola section (that did not appear, of course) and when I looked at the viola part, I was horrified to find that the part was basically all one note from midway, to end! Upon further investigation, I found that the Cellos, Contrabass and Trombone were also a page full of one note over and over. It eventually righted itself, but the parts are still not updated.
What do I do??

In order to help, we would need you to attach the score you are having problems with so we can see what is going on.
I am not sure if this is what you mean, or if I have done this correctly. 8-/

Yes!! Thank you! What did you do? I can't make pizzicato work for playback on this one, but that isn't a big deal. At least it is all there!

My methods are rather crude ...
I exported your score as XML (File / Export ...);
I opened it and generated Parts (All New).
I could not tell you how and why.
There is a bit 'of work to do to fix things, but it's better than nothing right?
Buona musica!

Well, you saved me having to figure out how to re-generate the parts myself. When I tried, the program crashed. I was also unable to delete parts. Crude or not, what you did was perfect. Thank you very much.

I can open the file, and offhand I don't see an obvious problem with it. I can reproduce the crash on attempting to delete all parts, but can you describe what steps you are taking with respect to things not updating?
Well, for example, I wrote a whole bunch of viola stuff in the score itself that somehow doesn't end up on the viola part. If you open the part, there are rests where that part should be. I am also experiencing a bug (maybe?) that causes the viola, cello and contrabass part to start out looking right and then just...all one note. The playback plays it right, but it's written wrong. I don't understand what is happening.
I cannot delete or add a part, either. I tried to generate a new viola part to no avail. Just one big crash.
In reply to Well, for example, I wrote a by swirlgirl
As I said, at first glance, I don't see any particular problem - I don't know where to look. Which measure in the viola part are you seeing a problem? And what do I need to do to reproduce the problem where the the parts show just one note? We can't investigate a problem without steps to reproduce it, so the more precise you can be - step by step - about what we need to do to see the problem, the better.
Ok, firstly, I have finally figured out a way to screen shot what the viola part is doing. This also happens to the cellos, contrabass and trombone. It seems to happen after a save.
Also, between rehearsal marks D and E, I added some stuff to the viola section on the main score, but it does not appear on the actual viola part. This could be some kind of weird issue with my computer, and maybe for you the viola part looks just right. The image below should give you a good idea of what I am seeing.
Note that in this image, there are rests between D and E that should not be there. 2 bars of rest, then one bar of doodly-doos in the middle of nowhere, and then 6 bars of rest. On the main score, that 6 bars of rest is full of viola goodness. If I change an already existing note on the main score, it updates the viola part accordingly. If I add stuff where there wasn't stuff before, it doesn't show up on the viola part at all.
I don't know how to help you reproduce what's happening, aside from you actually attempting to add something to the viola part on the main score and checking if it has shown up on the actual part. Perhaps you could try adding something and then saving it?
(The weirdest thing about the one-note issue is that if you initiate playback, it sounds right (aside from the fact that it is still missing sections)...it just LOOKS messed up. I even tried downloading the parts to see if they would look that way for printing, and...they do!)
Thank you for being patient with me.

There are strange things going on (with the score attached to https://musescore.org/en/node/138791#comment-588771): in the parts dialog the scroll bar to the right doesn't work, and when I delete all parts, then to an 'all new' MuseScore crashes, opening it with a current nightly build crashes right away, after reporting corruptions in several measures and some other debug output:

Not sure yet, all these crashes make it pretty hard to fix the score
I wonder what could have caused all of this.
I had a Windows Update not too long ago, but it seemed as though all of that went fine.
I was able to create a piccolo trumpet part (using "A Clarinet") and that worked fine, updated correctly. I am afraid to touch any of it now just in case it messes up further.
I tried resetting to factory settings. I tried looking for a hidden copy of the score in my AppData folder, but it is corrupt too. If I could just delete those darn parts and start fresh, life would be so much easier...lol.
In reply to I wonder what could have by swirlgirl
Yes, I'd like to remove and regenerate the parts, but MuseScore crashes when trying to remove a part, so that's not an option.
Guess we should file another issue, against 2.0.3, this file and the crash when removing parts

Jojo, almost like last time.
I took the attached score (PhoeniciaBis) and I deleted a Part, then another, I saved. Then, I took courage, two then three at a time, and so on.
A crude method, as mentioned

I could not even delete one part without it crashing! How on earth did you do that??
I was able to generate parts just fine, except I have noticed that in this version, the horn part is messed up for some reason. In my original score, it's lower. In both, they are transposed at a perfect 5th, and yet they are different. I am so confused.
For interest's sake, I would like to mention that when you originally deleted and re-made the parts, this was also an issue. When I tried to open the file you sent the day before yesterday today, it told me the file was corrupt in staves 9 and 10 from measure 215 on. However, my original version has never told me it was corrupt...LOL. What is even happening????

OK, cadiz1 gave the big tip: opening the file in 2.0.2 and removing the parts there worked.
See attached. The bug seems to have been itroduced in 2.0.3 shortly before its release and to fix another issue, see #139071: Crash by removing parts when creation of other parts is undoing
