Bar highlighter?
Usually when i score read, i like to highlight bars with different colors so it is easy to separate the score in parts. This feature would make the workflow of compositions much easier in musescore.
I made a little concept image, and attached it here.

It's an interesting idea, but I'm afraid it doesn't fit into the scope of the MuseScore notation software.

Ok, allow me to rephrase my initial answer which was too short.
While the implementation to your need is honourable, there are much better ways to solve your need of being able to quickly visualise parts while scoring. What you basically need is a score timeline which allow quick navigation, adding (book)marks indicating the parts of your composition and more. The feature can be put in a separate window (docked or not).
Such a feature could be worked out some time after the release of MuseScore 2.0, but it's not within the scope of 2.0.

Yeah, bookmarks sound good as well! (Although i really prefer something more visual, but still bookmarks fit better)
