Changing note duration with numpad as default

• Mar 25, 2015 - 16:25

I would like to request that numpad keys come as default shortcuts to change note values, together with the 'regular' number keys. ( This is not even possible right now, because of what I reported here https://musescore.org/en/node/52551 )

I have some reasons for that. One is that it worked in Musescore 1.3, so it would be nice to keep it the same way. I think 1.3 treated numpad and regular numbers as the same thing, so that's probably why it worked. I don't know if someone intentionally changed that for 2.0 or if it's a new Qt thing. I really like it that they are now treated as different keys, because it makes TAB editing a lot better, but I don't see why not allow both to be used in regular notation.

Other reason is that numpad keys are not being used for anything while editing standard notation, so why not?

And one last reason is that some similar software also uses numpad keys, so it would be nice to people coming from those.

The numpad does change note duration for me using MuseScore 2.0 on Windows 8.1 and a french keyboard. What's your OS? What's your keyboard layout?

It's Arch Linux 64bit. And it's a brazilian keyboard, br-abnt2.

But if your numpad is working to change note values, how does it work when you're editing a tab? Because numpad and regular numbers are assigned to different actions in tab editing, by default, while only regular numbers are used in standard notation. I'm attaching a printscreen from my shortcuts window, but I believe yours will be the same, since I'm using the defaults.

As I understand, 1, 2, 3 .. should be normal numbers, while NumPad+1, NumPad+2, NumPad+3, .. should be numpad numbers, right?

I've been having the same problem; having just upgraded from 1.3 to 2.0, I found that the numpad no longer works for note input, as it's been assigned to TAB. I just spent a while redefining the keyboard shortcuts. My keyboard is French (AZERTY) and I'm on Linux Mint 17.1. What I've now done is to swap round the note entry and TAB shortcuts, so now the numpad is used for regular note entry and the regular numbers are used for TAB. Actually it's a bit more complicated than that, because on the AZERTY keyboard you have to press shift to use the regular numbers, which is a pain, so I've just assigned the keys used for those numbers without using shift, none of which are assigned by default. That gives this: &é"'(-è_çà which looks more complicated than it is in reality! I just have to remember to use the numpad for note entry and the others numbers for TAB.

that is what I just did and it works beautifully. It took awhile for me to figure out that I had to use the shift key to enter the shortcuts on the numpad, and I switched the TAB ones to the regular numerals. I also forgot to hit the apply button the first time and had to do it all over again. (duh...) Anyway thank you very much for posting this whole thing and I hope this helps the next person to come along with this particular situation. Have a nice day!
