DAW and MIDI import

• Aug 8, 2021 - 16:10

Hi everyone,

I use a DAW for checking out different midi files, however when I download a midi file on musescore it won't open the full midi in my piano roll.
Only the lower notes are shown but not the whole play.

Can anyone help out on what to do? I contacted Musescore support and they directed me towards here.

Looking forward to some solutions!

Please share an example score that is giving you difficulties.

One of the reasons I can think of is that there is a convention (but not a standard) that the first MIDI track should contain no notes, and be more of a conductor track for time/tempo events. MuseScore currently does not follow this convention; so you might need to add an "empty" first track in MuseScore to get your DAW to play nicely.

So we're talking about https://musescore.com/shio/yoasobi-yoru-ni-kakeru-piano-arrangment

Try the following:
1. Open the score :-)
2. Edit > Instruments
3. Add a voice instrument to the score
4. Open the mixer (F10)
5. With the Piano Track selected, change the MIDI channel in the details panel to become 2 instead of the current 1
6. Now select the Voice Track in the bottom area and change its MIDI channel to be 1
Effectively swapping the channels for those two instruments.
