Sound output
I've seen this asked before for older versions but can't find a solutions that works. I had no playback sound on musescore 3 but I saw there was a new version, so I installed it. Initially, all was fine, sound as expected, but now I'm getting no sound again. The sound is showing up in the musescore mixer and my device is outputting sound from other sources fine. I'm on a windows device, so I looked in volume mixer and musescore isn't showing up. Could somebody help with this issue please.

If it initially was fine and now MuseScore no longer seems to be able to access your sound device, then I'm betting your sound device is configured in windows to allow "exclusive access". Disable that setting.

Ok thanks I'll try that, I noticed musescore was there when I opened my deviced today, hadn't changed anything at that point.
For others' future reference I believe the issue was that I had preferences set to audio default in the I/O preferences. I noticed that Musescore showed up in volume mixer settings for the speakers but not headphones.

This fixed the issue.
Edit -> Preferences -> I/O -> Audio device
