Scordatura in MS4?

• Feb 4, 2023 - 19:40

I would like to know how you go about adding this, as I'm writing in a nonstandard tuning for the guitar. Attached is roughly the symbol that I'm interested in. There exists a guide for this for MS3, but I haven't found one for MS4 that I could follow.

Any ideas? Thanks.

You could try Sammik's scordatura plug-in. I used it in MuseScore 3 for several guitar and fiddle pieces. And it included an option for adding a "scordatura clef", i.e. the list of the open strings.

Sammik's plugin is rather brilliant and automates the most mind numbing parts of a scordatura workflow. But I found its interface hard to follow, and sometimes it would get in a state where it wouldn't let me take essential steps. But when it works it's great!

I'll try to remember to post some instructions, quirks, bugs and workarounds.

I just added Sammik's scordaturaPlugin_1-2.qml to the necessary MuseScore 4 directory folder. Presently it doesn't seem to run in MuseScore4. Nevertheless, here are the steps I took:

Download and install the scordatura plugin:

Download the .qml file at: https://musescore.org/en/project/scordatura
On MacOS move the .qml file to Users>"yourUserName">Documents>MuseScore4>Plugins

Enable the scordatura plugin in MuseScore 4:

On opening MuseScore 4 you should find the plugin in Home>Plugins>Disabled, though awkwardly it appears unnamed there! Click it (in the Disabled list) and read the description to make sure you've selected the correct plugin. If so, then press Enable (WAY down in the lower right corner. ) This "moves" it to the upper half of the screen: Home>Plugins>Enabled

Run the scordatura plugin:

Configure a score with two guitar parts
Choose: Plugins>Run scordaturaPlugin_1-2

Result:

Unfortunately, best I can tell, Sammik's scordatura plugin doesn't open in MuseScore4. So currently I see no point in supplying further instructions.

For anyone interested, here's a MuseScore 3.6.2 guitar score with scordatura (notated as if in standard tuning / plays back as it would sound in G tuning (DGDGBD).

There's an issue with notes on the 2nd string (the B string) and I can't figure that out.

I've attached the tuning setup and the score.

Hi!
I want to write a piece for cello with scordatura (c-g-d-g), like Bach Suite and I can not do it. Is there a template I can use, that if I write the sounding note, it transcribe is to the scordatura? Also in c minor.
Thank you very much!
I was trying to follow instructions, but I dont know how to install a Pluging...
