Tie
Add ties in Normal mode #
Method 1
Select one or more noteheads in the "start" chord.
First note selected
Press +, or the toolbar tie button, tie button :
Tie to adjacent note .
Ties will be created between the selected note(s) and the next available note(s) of the same pitch.
Experience:
The tie is greated as the handbook describes, but when played, both "tied" notes will be played as individuals.

You should add, that your description is for MuseScore 3.x
And your experience might be a only for you, normally the ties work as expected and extend the note duration without new play each note.
I am using the version 4.
Below, please find one piece of music, where tie has been used and when played the notes still play like separate. Lyrics works fine.

The shortcut for tie in MuseScore 4 is "T".
