SHIFT-CTRL stopped working after moving a few chords to the paletter.

• Oct 28, 2023 - 19:04

I'm using Musescore3.6 now and Windows 10.
I was moving modified chords from my music staff, by holding down Ctrl-Shift and then dragging them into the Fretboard palette. It stopped working.
Now I can move the chords anywhere in the music by simple selecting them with the mouse and dragging them, and they stay where dragged. A red dashed line follows the move.
I believe before they were locked to the distance set in the Inspector (or some other place) and I could only move them with Ctrl-Shift.

Any ideas?

The handbook says "Score items, when added to a palette, are saved with their custom properties.

Press and hold Ctrl+Shift (Mac: Cmd+Shift), then drag the score element from the score onto a palette. The score element could be a symbol, line, text, dynamic, fretboard diagram, imported image etc."

What do you mean it means 'Copy'? Where do you get that?

By copy I mean that it leaves the original where it is in the score but adds a copy to the palette.

Be sure to hold CTRL+SHIFT before pressing and holding the mouse button to do the drag operation. Also make sure that the element you want to drag is not selected for editing - press ESC to get out of editing mode before doing the drag.

Yes, It doesn't move because you are actually moving a copy. The original fretboard diagram stays right where it was when you created it and an invisible copy moves with the mouse pointer. When you reach the destination - the palette - the red circle will change to a pointer with a plus sign. At least that is what happens in windows. A different operating system may show a different indication. if you then let go of the mouse button, the fretboard diagram will settle into place in the palette, provided the palette is enabled for editing.

To collect all the advice together in one place

  1. Ensure the palette you want to add the fretboard diagram to is enabled for editing - click on the three dots next to the palette name to check
  2. Ensure you are not in edit mode and that the fretboard diagram is not highlighted. Press ESC to get out of edit mode if you need to.
  3. Hold CTRL and SHIFT down together before you press and hold the mouse button to do the drag operation.
  4. When you start the drag operation you will see the mouse cursor turn into a red circle with a stroke across it. This indicates that your mouse cursor is not located where the fretboard diagram can be dropped - i.e. not over a palette that is enabled for editing.
  5. Keep dragging until you reach the place where you want to drop the fretboard diagram and then release the mouse button.
