Intro Notes
Adding a couple of short intro notes different from the general time setting in MuseScore seems to upset it. I know I can make these invisible, but how do I stop it happening in the first place?
It doesn't happen if I import it as MusicXML from ABC.

It is not clear exactly what you are trying to do. However, I am guessing you want to create an anacrusis or pick-up measure.

Thanks Steve, that answers my question perfectly.
When I open one of the scores I've imported via MusicXML, I can see that MuseScore has done exactly this on the pick-up measure contained in the file.
