Edit Midi Data?

• Sep 15, 2024 - 17:36

Is it possible to edit the midi data directly in MuseScore? Specifically, I'd like to be able to change the default velocity of the various dynamics symbols (they are too extreme for what I'm trying to do) - but I would take any advice at all about editing the key velocities.

Comments

To edit MIDI data:
1. Press F8, or go to View and select Properties
2. Select the note.
3. Under General, click Playback and adjust the velocity from there.

This has not worked for me when it comes to adjusting dynamics. Instead, I would apply an invisible dynamic symbol over an existing visible dynamic symbol, and disable playback from the old dynamic symbol for display only.
1. Select the dynamic.
2. In the Properties tab and under General, uncheck Play.
3. Click the note the dynamic was assigned to, and apply a softer/louder dynamic over the existing one.
4. In the Properties tab and under General, uncheck Visible. The new dynamic should grey out, indicating that it will not be visible on the score.
5. Playback and repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have the right dynamic applied.

Hope this helps.

Ok yeah thanks this does help me get the velocities right - and you can highlight and set the velocities of groups of notes, so it's a pretty complete fix.

Of course, it'd be way better to have individual control over those dynamics, so I hope someone reading this get that message. Seems like a real easy thing to implement.

In MS3 you can adjust the velocity levels to suit your needs

... but sadly this option has been stripped out of MuseScore 4.

If you don't need to work in MuseScore 4 you can get MuseScore Evolution 3.7.
