external USB Midi keyboard
I just tried once such a keyboard.....and was not even able to "see" it undet Ubuntu 10.04
I tried to uderstand through Google......and I'm not sure if one needs a special software (a driver?) to be installed, one which would be specific of the keyboard..... or if there is some general purpose linux driver for such devices....
thanks to the specialist who let me know....

I'm not sure I understand your question:
1) Doesn't work your USB MIDI keyboard? What is the model?
2) Are you looking for a USB MIDI keyboard that works under Linux? I have an excellent feedback with AKAI LPK25 keyboard, that works fine with Ubuntu 10.4 and MuseScore 0.9.6.2 (no drivers or additional software). I bought this keyboard few weeks ago on a web store: it has no internal sounds, is very small and use it to write music with MuseScore.
Best regards
Antonio
@robert What's the brand of your keyboard?

references in the invoice are: :
Miditech i2-49 USB Masterkeyboard inkl. Magix Samplitude SE ( référence SYN0002947-000 )
bought in 2008: http://www.musicstore.de/
however this reference no longer appears on the site
and the closest similar found on the net seems to be
http://www.miditech.de/site.php4?site_id=133
On this site, the miditech one, in the FAQ, one can read:
"Do Miditech keyboards work with Linux or Mac?
Primary we developed our keyboards and audio interfaces for the Windows platform. But because they are all "class compliant" now, they will also work with Mac OSX and Linux, for example Ubuntu Linux 10 without drivers. "
So I plan to borrow again this keyboard (in fact it's not mine) to try more seriously, beginning with a "lsusb".......

A standard mute MIDI keyboard connected through a MIDI USB adapter (Xmidi 1x1 Tab from E-MU) does work.
When Musescore is active I hear the sound when I play the keyboard.
But........I can't size notes. (using 3762M nightly Ubuntu)
When mscore is in edition mode:
if a rest is selected, when I play a note on the keyboard I receive a message: "Pas de note sélectionnée :
Veuillez sélectionner une note et réessayez" (there is no note selected. Select one and try again)
if a note is selected, playing a note on the keyboard "add" this note to the previous, which gives a chord.....

Just tested on Windows with r3774 and it works. Can you provide a screenshot of Edit -> Preferences?

According to your previous post, you are using the linux nighly right? I guess it builds without portaudio/portmidi support. I will try to reach the nightly maintainer to let him know.

indeed I'm using the nightly build, but I could build from svn
I wait for further instructions
