The "Mastering MuseScore" book

• Oct 20, 2015 - 14:06

For about one and a half months ago I purchased Marc Sabatella's book "Mastering MuseScore".
Although I am a (more or less)experienced user of MuseScore who has gained some knowledge of how to get things done in this great software , it is a well worth purchase!!
A real treasury of 'how to's' and very well written.
Thank you very much Marc, you did a great job!
But do not let me forget also to thank the other guys:
Thomas Bonte, Nicolas Froment and Werner Schweer!

Thanks for the kind words! The free online Handbook is of course a wonderful resource and for many people it may be enough. But for those who long for the more comprehensive documentation that one typically gets with high-priced proprietary software - or who just wish to find a way to express their support for the project - I am gratified to be able to provide that as well.

I'm throwing a bouquet to all concerned.

Making the switch from v1.3 to v2 is a great time for me to look over the ins and outs of the program from scratch. I decided to get the Mastering MuseScore paperback instead of just using the online handbook, partly to support MuseScore and partly because I find it more convenient to use print books for reference.

I hesitated for two reasons: The small type size in the paperback, and the stiff price. (No need to defend either of those things; just saying they deterred MY eyeballs and MY wallet.)

Black Friday brought a happy solution.

First, Amazon's HOLIDAY30 discount code took $10 off the paperback price. (Good thru Nov. 30, 2015). (I understand that Amazon takes an Amazon-initiated discount out of its own cut, not the royalty, so MuseScore hopefully will get full royalty benefit.)
Second, I noticed that buyers of the paperback can get the Kindle version FREE under the Kindle MatchBook program.

So, I bought the paperback at a price I could afford and added the Kindle version to use when I feel the need to view a section in larger print.

Thank you all for MuseScore. And for writing the book. And for offering it in both print and digital formats. And for enrolling it in Kindle MatchBook. And for setting the KMB price at $0.00.

Blessings,
Linda

I don't know whether you'd find enough demand for a full-on large print edition, to justify the extra work. A somewhat larger type size for the text portion would certainly suffice for me, even if you can't readily enlarge the images.

Another consideration: Larger type = more pages = higher manufacturing cost, unless you increase the trim size. Current trim size is 7.5" x 9". You could go as big as 8" x 10" and still be within the realm of other reference books I have.

Followup: Now that I have "Mastering MuseScore" in hand, I'd say that the text in the paperback, though smallish, is more readable than I expected. So I'm satisfied to use that as my primary format.

I'm still glad I was able to get the Kindle version free through the Matchbook program, though. It was convenient to read that during down-time at a recent conference, without toting a heavy book around.
