cracking sound even when entering notes

• Mar 8, 2016 - 11:33

Hi all,
I just installed musescore 2.0.2 on my new Macbook and I can't seem to get rid of the crackling sound it does when playing back the score or even entering the notes - I've seen that for many people it doesn't do that for the first 3 beats or so, in my case however it starts from the very beginning, even when entering the notes. I used to have Musescore with the same version on my macbook air before this and it worked fine...
One thing I noticed is that for some reason the volume seems to be much lower by default than it was on the other laptop, when I started typing the notes I could barely hear any sound, I adjusted the volume with the synth but anyway it is very disturbed (even when it's not at full volume).
Any suggestion? Thanks!

Have you also tried the advice of JM6stringer (the last of that page) "... Replace the -F (for factory reset) with the -s command line option ..."?
Provide more information on the version of the operating system, I hope will come a better answer...

tiny update: I downloaded musescore 1.3 (which I can't use cause all the musescore files I've done don't work with it) and I don't seem to have the cracking problem there. So I installed the same sound font musescore 1.3 uses into musescore 2 hoping that this would do the trick..and it didn't. There is just something with the release of musescore 2 which doesn't work with this range of MacBooks...

It's my guess that you have the synthesiser output too hot.

Open the Synthesiser page from the View menu.

Now play one of the scores you are having trouble with.

If the meter is turning red then that is the problem.

Simply turn the master volume down a little.

Thanks for all your suggestions!! it might surprise you ( not ) to hear that unfortunately nothing changed even with this try :( I don't seem to find anything like the windows mixer, there's a sound feature in the system preferences but you can just select the output speakers, the balance and the overall volume.
