Stemless note heads
r2811
At the present moment, to get a stemless slash to represent quarter-note time through a bar for chordnames, one has to place notes which then are changed to slashes and then the stem has to be removed. Slashes will not replace rests. This is cumbersome.
I suggest that slashes be able to replace rests also, as this is much less labour (sic. Canadian, eh) intensive.
Regards.

I meant to mention that going to rests also stops the note from sounding when playing back.
Wow, no comment to this at all. But I second this statement. On playback, I would not like to hear slash marks make sound. That is the difficulty I am having right now.

That's easy - mute the stave they are in in the Mixer.

But, if I mute the staff, then wouldn't the other notes that actually are suppose to be played in the staff be muted as well?

Yea. Better is to set the velocity of just those notes to 0, via Note Properites. Again, the plugin does all this automatically.

Wait, I tried that, and the notes still played on playback.... Hmmm... I'll try again.

You tried what - the plugin? i guarantee that sets velocity to 0 and they don,t playback, since I wrote it :-). if you're doing it manually, note you have to select User in the velocity type drop down, then set 0. And you have to do it to all the notes, which means after selecting the range, you may have to hold shift or ctrl or something when right clicking to bring up the note properties dialog.

Better solution - install and run the Slash Notation Styles plugin, which automatically creates stemless silent slashes to fill a selected region. Also offers a "rhythmic notation" and an "accent notation" style. See the advanced version of my tutorial on creating lead sheets for more info: http://musescore.org/en/node/11726. The plugin and tutorial did not exist when this thread was started.

I had posted this so long ago, I just mute the sound when I get there. This is much better.
