new SaxFingering plugin

• Jan 21, 2013 - 14:13

Hi all.
I made a Saxophone Fingering plugin that print tablature for finger position.
Really usefull for making music exercises for beginners.

I took lasconic's Recorder Fingering and modified a little.
Also included "Woodwind Tablature Sax US" by Matthew Hindson.

I've tested on musescore 1.2 under Linux.

Please test and feedback.

Thank you all!

I really dig the idea of being able to enhance tutorials on alternate fingering with handy diagrams in proximity. I finally got around to using it today and wonder why all the Bb's call for use of the bis key. Is there a way to choose one of the other fingerings? How tough would it be to add things like altissimo fingerings or multiphonics to the font? Thanks to you and all others who contribute to MuseScore to make it the wonderful resource it is.

Hi Tim, thanks for your comments.
The script just take the notes you write and shows a predefined symbol (in this case, a glyph from the saxfingering font)
I mean: As this plugins works automatically, a Bb would be always Bb and will print same symbol everytime.
Lets say a Bb traduces as note 58 (I don't remember now, it's just an example), B would be 59 and C 60
In sax we have several Bb, F#, C, C#, and all the altissimo fingerings.
If a Bb is written as note 58 (midi), how can I make different 58's?
maybe differencing using volume?
could be... volume note goes from 0 through 127...
if I write a Bb with volume < 40 -----> fingering 1
if volume between 40 and 80 -----> alternate fingering 2
if volume > 80 -----> alternate fingering 3
But this affect directly when playing the score.
Tough. Will work on a patch.

Dragonauta, many thanks for your reply. Your remarks regarding the possibility of using volume zones for accommodating alternate fingerings got me thinking- isn't volume one of the control change parameters? Are there enough different control changes inherent to a MIDI note value that there could be an added control changes so there's a unique control change for each option? For example, a note lacking reverb and chorus might be bis Bb, one with reverb might be side Bb, and one with chorus might be a 1 and 1?

Thanks so much for recommending I look up the .txt file; I printed it and the directions are very well written so I'm up to speed as to how to create diagrams of alternate fingerings. This will give my tutorials on such topics a crisper look. Thanks again- best to all who make MuseScore the powerful resource it is.
