4/4 to 7/8 without notes being "eaten" up

When trying to insert odd time signatures into existing score, the last note in the measure where time change occurs is being eaten up. In my example, a 4/4 measure consisting of 8 eights, when put into 7/8 measure results in the last eight being eaten up. How to overcome this?
