Crescendo doesn't work
What I did was I selected 4 measures, pressed "h" for a crescendo, and it doesn't work, meaning the crescendo doesn't affect the audio, making it build up. Is there something I'm missing?

You are not missing anything. MuseScore 1.0 doesn't play crescendo.

Is there any future chance that a crescendo could be "playable" in MuseScore? I find it somewhat annoying to have to use individual dynamics to raise the volume in a piece, especially if the crescendo is something that can't even be recreated, like mf --> f.

Crescendo will be "playable" in MuseScore 2.0. In the meantime, you could use this plugin http://musescore.org/en/project/crescendo-diminuendo-playback
yeah, i'm using musescore 1.0, crescendo and diminuendo didnt work in my PC...
Here is a technique, using increasing dynamic notation and pedal notation, which achieves the same result as a crescendo if a working crescendo notation is not available (see attached .mscz file which demonstrates this with timpani).
(You don't need the pedal notation. It just made sense for timpani at the time.)
It's not ideal, but it works. Move around the dynamic notations (ppp, pp, ..., fff) with the mouse to see how they are attached to create a crescendo. You can even use less of them and still have an acceptable effect.
