Can rest durations be modified - newbie

• Jun 9, 2016 - 11:06

I am a newbie (aged 70!) I try to use the manual which I have downloaded. However, some things still defeat me. I have tried to enter an eight-note triplet. I seem to have made an error. I now have a load of 1/16 note rests in the bar. It seems that I cannot overwrite a 1/16 rest with an 1/8 note (I have tried). How do I "convert" 1/16 rests to 1/8 rests - or is there another way to solve this problem. Many thanks, Brian

To overwrite - i.e. "convert" - a 1/16 rest to an 1/8 rest:
1. Click on the 1/16 rest (turns blue).
2. Press 4 (or click on 1/8 note duration in toolbar).

For eighth note triplet:
An eighth note triplet equals quarter note duration, so
1. Click on a quarter rest or quarter note.
2. Press Ctrl+3 to turn into 3 eighth rests (onto which you enter the pitches).

Regards, and welcome aboard.

Welcome, Brian. The frustration will (probably) pass. If you are quick enough to realise a mistake then [Ctrl]z or [Ctrl]zz can undo one or two steps (respectively). When triplets are involved, however, I often find it easier just to delete the contents of the whole measure and start again.
