Grace notes before the beat

Sometimes when I write music I would like to add a grace note with a chord underneath but then what happens is that the chord and the note I play (not the grace not) are not in sync.
What i thought is that maybe there could be an option of adding a grace note that strikes before the original note`s beat.
I am aware that you can also add a grace note to the previous note but after it but it`s not always sounds good enough or at the right place.
