Improved midi import?

Has there been any progress in work to improve Musescore's midi import? As I recall, it was one of the topics under consideration last summer.

I'm always hoping to inspire up and coming composers. Here's a tune I put together in Musescore that may spark some ideas:

The basis for this contest piece was a 1925 J. Lawrence Cook version of a New Orleans Rhythm Kings/Jelly Roll Morton tune, Milenberg Joys (also known as Milneburg Joys).
