MuseScore drops dotted tie note(s)

• Aug 24, 2011 - 00:11

MS 1.1 - Win XP - Key of C - 6/8 Time
I have an Oboe measure beginning with two 8th notes tied with a bar, followed by a half note tied to a dotted half note in the following measure. After being built, saved or not, it plays correctly as intended. If I delete the screen after saving the score and then reload the score and play it; MuseScore drops the tied dotted half note even though it still shows in the score. If I then delete the half notes in both measures and re-enter them; again they play correctly as intended. But if I delete the screen and reload, MuseScore still drops the tied half note. So, this is a repeatable problem. I use the following sequence of steps to build the measures:
(1) Delete both half notes
(2) Click on the rest where I want to start note entry
(3) Click on N to activate note entry
(4) Click on the half note in the tool bar
(5) Place the first half note at the highlited rest
(5) Click on the . in the tool bar
(6) Immediately click on the + tie icon in the tool bar
(7) Click on N to deactivate note entry
I have other tied notes elsewhere in the score which continue to work as intended.
Your help would be much appreciated in resolving this problem.

Hello:
I may have made an error in my original description when I discovered something different.
I brought up the mixer and muted all instruments except the Oboes.
It seems MuseScore does not drop the note, but rather drops the dynamic from p to pp in measure 196,
while at the same time it does NOT drop the dynamic on the same structure in measure 200.
Clearly this is what is happening and its repeatable. I have attached the score.
Please respect my rights and delete the file when you are finished.

Hello Lasconic:
Still have not heard from you.
I see there is a new posting which may be related:
See mdeluca: New notes should adopt current dynamic marking.
While not exactly like my problem, Muscore seems to have a problem carrying the current dynamic to the next note and/or
measure. Hope this helps.

I've listened to the sections you are referring to (MS 1.1, Win7), and I don't see an issue. If you solo the oboe's together then you have two instruments playing. Starting in measure 194 through 195 you have two oboes, which combined make them louder than a single, thus raising the P level to an MP. In 196, one oboe drops out making the sound softer as you only have one instrument. Solo each oboe and listen, there is no drop on the single instruments.

At measure 198 you have a similar construct but you don't have an oboe drop out in the middle of a long hold note, so you don't notice the drop in volume as much. Once again, solo each instrument and listen.
