Triple Eighth Notes

• Sep 13, 2016 - 04:44

Hi all, I'm new to Musescore, as in about a half hour or so. I'm trying to create a jig, The Irish Washerwoman in 3/4 time. I can get it to sound right, but I want to connect the six eighth notes in each measure into groups of three. I have them arranged into tuplet triplets, but it is grouping the eighth notes in twos, with a "3" above one and a half groups. I hope that isn't confusing! Is there a way to do this?

Do I understand correctly that you want the first three eighth notes to be beamed together, and the last three be beamed together. Two groups, consisting of three notes each.

Do you actually want to tap your foot twice in each measure?

Then the song is not in 3/4, but in 6/8.

If you change the time signature, then any new notes you enter will automatically be beamed as you wish them to be. But the music you already entered needs to be redone. (And no 3-tuplets needs to be involved. ) It is possible to just fix the beams, see the link below.

Here is a link to the chapter on beams in the Handbook:
