Could This Be The Answer To Pirated Music?!

• Dec 23, 2016 - 14:17

I was thinking the other day about how to secure your music so it wouldn't get pirated.
(for just a while back, a friend of mine got a piece pirated, thankfully the person finally took it down, just after some strong persuasion. ;) I'm not too concerned about one of mine being stolen, but my idea would certainly prevent it) I know there are other people asking about watermarks, but this could be the biggest hit with those who are scared about their music being stolen

So this would possibly be a good feature in Musescore:

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Make it where you can put a Watermark in, I know you could just make a text box and bla bla bla... but in this idea, no one can delete it, for you would make a password for the text box, so anyone wanting to edit/remove the Watermark can't, because they don't know the password!

I'm not a programmer so this could be tricky to program, but it would really make Musescore stand more out, even among the programs you PAY for.

So I thank all the people who have gotten Musescore to where it is now! because this program is in my opinion, the easiest and nicest program to use. Which I have tried using Sibelius and Finale, but they just don't feel nice to work in :)

(I have not searched to see if anyone has though of this exact idea, but if someone has I will use this as just a second voice :D)

And let me know what you think!

MuseScore is open source, making this feature useless.

Anyone who wants to break your score open can simply recompile an adjusted version of MuseScore that ignores the password protection and even automatically removes all boxed with a password on them…

That being said, anyone wanting to pirate your score can simply re-enter it; if someone can read it, it can be copied.
